Greetings!
Does anyone know how long the fastest train takes from Bangkok to chiang Mai? And if one takes first class sleeper car is it really comfortable enough to sleep?
Thank you for your help!
fastest train from bangkok to chiang mai
We have done this trip a few times. It takes about 13 hours. Don%26#39;t waste your money going first class. Take the second class aircon. The beds are so much better and the toilets are cleaner. I have no worries sleeping on the train but others may not.

I%26#39;ve taken the overnight sleeper to Chiang Mai a few times, I like it!
There is some vibration to get used to and some gentle swaying to get used to but it is not unlike trying to sleep in Business Class on a plane (except for the free drinks!)
What is the alternative, fly, go during the day and sit in the seat? Taking the overnight saves you paying for another night in a hotel in Bangkok.
It is only around 13 hours anyway! Bring some favorite snacks and water with you along with some handi-wipes. The 3 time I used this train there was an attendant coming by taking orders for breakfast. If you like your eggs and meat barely cooked - go for it! Train arrives in Chiang Mai early in the morning and you will have the whole day ahead of you to check out the city.
Have a good time!
