23/7 - 7/8 Holiday Review

As promised the second part to our honey moon review. We have done the hotel this is everything else.

Eating - We ate at too many places to mention on here but places we were really happy with was the Hotel Seaview Patong, Holiday Inn, Patong Merlin (buffett), Rock City, Coyote and Saxaphone. We never had a bad meal but there were some places that we never went back to. Watch what you get off the people selling food in the street as well as it is not always cooked to your standard.

Nightlife - Wow there was so many bars we both felt like we needed new livers when we got back. I would drink the local beer Singha mainly. It was about 90 baht a bottle or maybe less can%26#39;t remember. My wife would drink cocktails which was about 180 baht. If you walk up the beech road in Patong there are loads of bars to call into some with live music. With listened to an Elvis show at the Banana Bar and live acustic band in Saxaphone. We loved Bangla road and ended up there most nights. Tiger bar was really good as there are about 30 bars within it. Walking to the toilet was a bit scary though on my own but sat together with my wife we had a laugh with the bar staff and played games. Most of the bars on Bangla road have girls for sale and they are normally working behind the bar so beware why they are being so nice to you. One bar on Bangla road that don%26#39;t allow working girls in is Ship Wreck mid way up the road. You can sit there and watch everything happen accross the street and not be pestered.

There is one bar that i would give special mention and urge you all to go and visit and that is called Dream Bar. It is close to the Seven eleven at the south end of patong beech near Seaview Hotel. The bar man there Don is one of the most pleasent thai person we met out there. The drinks are very cheap and he has no problem with talking to you about what you have been up to and recommend other things for you to do. It%26#39;s a cool place and one thing we will always remember about out holiday.

Things to Do

Elephant trekking - becareful where you go as different places offer different types of tours and treat the elephants in different ways. We went on an hours tour and it was lovely. Friends we met out there said they did the same somewhere in Patong and didn%26#39;t like it at all.

Monkey Show - Phuket zoo do the best one as they monkeys are not on chains being pulled around the place.

Croccadile Show - Also at Phuket zoo watch a man put his head inside their mouth.

Elephant Show- Also at Phuket zoo. they are well looked after you can feed them before the show. they paint pictures and you can then buy them once they are finished.

Phuket Zoo - as well as the shows mentioned above you can have your pic taken with snakes, monkeys and a big lion.

Fantasea - Animal show at the evening. Recommend paying the little bit extra and getting the gold seats as this is the best view. We had the dinner package which i would also recommend but the service was crap in there (thank god the food was help yourself)

Simon ..... forget the name of the show but it was basically a professional transvestite show. Highly recommend it was very entertaining but not for small kids.

Phi Phi island by Speedboat - there are loads of Phi phi island tours we found and each one does different things. Our one we got picked up form the hotel at 07:50 taken to boat lagon for welcome drinks, we left there at 9 for a full days tour of islands, there was loads of time to jump of the boat in the middle of no where and swim, snorkel, feed the monkeys. We stopped at an island for a buffett lunch with was excellent and then soaked up the sun for an hour before returning back at 16:30. A full day and very tiring.

James Bond Island by Speedboat - As above full days trip with same company. Visited loads of islands and caves fresh fruit and cold drinks on board all the time if you were hungary or thirsty. Load so time for sun-bathing, snorkling and swimming.

Island Tour - When walking around you will get many taxi companies asking for your money in return for a days trip at 200 baht. We always though that this was a bit too cheap and not sure if we would get left somewhere. During the holdiay we got to know a couple of the tuk tuk drivers outside the seven eleven near our hotel and they took us on a tour for 500 baht of the island and Phuket town.

Temples - went to the one in Patong on the first sunday we were there which was their holy day. nice temple but looked a bit dirty. Later in holiday we went to the one in Chalong which was amazing and everyone should go there to see. Remember women you must cover up which my wife had to buy a cheap piece of material from the market before we went there.

Markets - everything you could ever want are on there. We got a few DVD%26#39;s and CD%26#39;s, T-shirts and gifts for us and family. Always barter for the right price. and havea laugh about it. If you stand there in silence with that thinking expression on your face normally tempts them to drop the price a little more or even if you go to leave will have the same affect. At the end of the day if you are happy to pay the price then pay it.

I really can%26#39;t think of anything else to talk about but i%26#39;m sure i will when we read other posts on the forum.

p.s Singapore airlines were amazing for leg room and service offered.

23/7 - 7/8 Holiday Review

Hi which operator did you use for phi phi and was the boat crowded.

Thankyou

Hi Cooper,

Thanks for your report, sounds like you had a great honeymoon.

Was this your first time to Phuket, as you have packed a lot in if it was your first time?

Cheers,

Stewie.

Hi Cooper,

A great report - can you tell me how far the Dream Bar was from the Seaview - was it on the Beach road?

You did heaps of things on your honeymoon! It suddenly dawned on me why we, and so many others, love a holiday in Phuket - you can just chill out, or you can do a variety of tours, all a little different.

We are heading out for our 4th trip to Phuket, and are already talking about the 5th one that we will do! And, coming from Australia, it doesn%26#39;t break the bank.

Cheers,

Sandy %26amp; John

We did have a excellent time in Phuket. It was our first trip out there and i know it sounds like we did loads but there was days when we just chilled out by the pool all day which was also nice.

For our speed boat tours we used a company called Phuket Adventures. I don%26#39;t think they are the cheapest but listening to what others did on their tours of the same islands it sounds like you pay for what you get. The cheaper it is the less time you spend out touring and less chance of actually being able to get off the boat and do sume snorkling and swimming with the fishes whilst they are being fed.

Dream bar is an ace little bar. From south Patong beech near seaview hotel walk north up towards the town. About 5 mins from the hotel there is seven eleven if you reah this you have gone to far. It is one of the little bars two or three buildings before this seven eleven. The bar man in their called Don can%26#39;t do enough for you. They do laundry service there as well which is very good and cheap. At the front of the bar is one of those tour scouts which also seem to get a good deal on tours.

We loved our holiday and really didn%26#39;t want to come back. We did so many things out there that you would never be able to do over here in sunny / wet UK. We definitely want to go back next year and have already spoken to Don (from Dream Bar) about staying in their rooms that go for 1000 Baht per night. (and were very very nice)

Thanks to everyone on this board who gave us some tips and hints before we went out and hopefully we will stay on the forum and pass on our tips and hints to everyone else.

p.s was meant to say that the speedboats we went on had 12 people on them. There was plenty of room and an english speaking guide made it a bonus for telling you what to do at each beech we stopped at. We had fresh fruit and endless supply of bottled water and soft drinks to help yourself to.

Hi Cooper,

Yes, I know where the Dream Bar is - we used to walk past it - was it the one with the small pool out the front and a bar ?- we actually used to chat to a guy that stays there every year with his wife - we looked at his room, and it was pretty good.

Sandy

I remember the one your talking about cause we used to go past it every day. It wasn%26#39;t that one it was a little bar about 2 building up from that just before that seven eleven.

Must admit though good idea to have a pool in a bar for your hot customers.

Hi Cooper,

great read, thanks for the info on who to go with. Just a qusetion regarding the Dream Bar rooms....Are there any web sites telling you about them , if not how do people find out about them and book them. Any info appreciated.

regards

Karin

Hi Karin

I made a mistake with the name of the bar which is strange considering the amount of time and drink we had in there but maybe the drink is the reason i got it wrong. The bar is called SEA DREAM. On it%26#39;s front there is a little tour scout that sits there all day waiting for people to approach them. It is the contact details for this tour scout that i have but Don (works behind the bar) said that it is owned by the same person so e-mails for rooms will get through.

The website for the tour scout is www.goholidayphuket.com and there are contact details on this website. Just put in your title of e-mail that it%26#39;s for the bar and ask to see some pics which they will send through.

We had a look at the rooms before we left and although the rooms in the Seaview Patong Hotel are very nice i would have easily stayed at this place.

Hope this helps.
