First time to Bangkok at the end of the month...Flt arriving BKK at 1245am so will probably clear immigration/customs at 2am....would it be safe to travel to our hotel via a metered taxi or book a limo. Thanks in advance
Taxi at past midnight
2am and Bangkok will still be jumping albeit it on the slowdown.
There will bwemany taxis at the airport waiting and you should be OK taking a taxi to your hotel.
Taxi at past midnight
Yeap, plenty of taxis at the taxi stand for u!
Hello :
I was in the BKK airport at 2AM after a long flight Crossing the
Pacific from LAX. There were many Taxis at the stand outside
the arrival hall . You need to check in at the Taxis desk before
get into the Taxi meter. The Taxis in LOS are safe and reliable,
and Not a type of Taxis in Colombia that You are worry about.
The worst thing can happen is the tout try to sell you a 1000baht
Taxi ride to downtown hotel.
Enjoy your trip,
I have been arriving in Bangkok around that time for years. No problems at all!
When you finish with immigration and money changing go to the bottom level avoiding all of the touts in the arrivals hall! Make sure you have some small bills to pay the taxi driver and toll charges for the ride.
IGNORE THE TOUTS IN THE ARRIVALS HALL!
On the bottom level, near door 7 or 8 you will find the taxi sign up desk. They will ask you the name and address of your hotel, make sure you have the address with you, there are lots and lots of hotels in Bangkok and driver can%26#39;t know all the places - but he will most likely know the streets pretty good!
The taxi sign up clerk will write your hotel name down, tell the driver where you want to go and write the taxi number on a form that he gives to you. You are responsible for the meter fare, 50 baht surcharge and any tolls you may pass through. The price is for everyone you can safely put into the taxi. Meter fare starts at 35 baht.
You pay the driver at the end of the ride. Some drivers may not have money to pay for the tolls, that%26#39;s okay. The price he pays will be showing at the toll booth on a sign. Your toll charges will most likely be less than 70 baht. I think it is 25 baht for one and 40 baht for a second toll booth. (The last few times late at night the driver didn%26#39;t take the toll road, there is little traffic.)
No surcharge when you grab a taxi to return to the airport for the ride home.
Pretty simple!
When you get to your hotel and clean up a little you can still find a street side cafe open if you want a drink. They may hide the drink in a soft drink glass or bag though after 2 a.m.
Hope you chose a hotel that is close to the Skytrain, some place like Siam or Sukhumvit. The Skytrain is cheap quick transportation to many areas of Bangkok. (Sort of like the MRT in Manila.)
Okeydokey!
Wow!...Thanks everyone for the info...Will be staying at the a royal meredien plaza athenee which I beleive is near a skytrain station. Will keep note of all your tips. Thanks again!
