We are taking three weeks to see Thailand, Siem Reap, and Vietnam.....thinking about whether or not to squeeze in Phuket for a couple of days since I just learned there is a direct flight from Chiang Mai to Phuket. Since we live in California a couple of miles from the beach (in San Diego) - is it worth it? Is it that spectacularly beautiful?

Patong beach can be quite busy with boats etc, a couple of miles up you have karon beach,which is quieter and nicer,also a bit futher up you have kata beach which is very nice,then kata noi, my favorite .........this is paradise, katathani hotel is the only one on kata noi beach .

My wife and I stayed there last year and it was just bliss.

We stayed in the main wing,Jade suite, great sea views excellent service, and only 20 minutes from patong.

Since you are from Cal you probably go to the beach often. If you just want to hang out on the beach there are better places than Phuket in Thailand. Having said that there are lots of things to see and do there.

The islands around Phuket are spectacular so do get out and enjoy the area. Suggestion: Day trip to the Similan Islands, Day trip to Phangna Bay (Sea Canoe). Phi Phi Island is nice and if for just a day trip go with Sea Angel.

We have family friends coming next week to visit. After traveling around north Thailand for a while we are heading to Phuket.

While we are there we are going to do the Sea Canoe through caves at Phangna Bay. Hundreds of limestone jungle covered islands here, breathtaking.

1 day deep sea fishing on our chartered private yacht. I caught a nice sailfish a few years back.

2 nights on Phi Phi Island. Hired a private 2 engine speed boat for a day to explore Maya Bay, coral reefs and surrounding islands and beaches. We will leave early morning so we get to these places and have the beaches and reefs to ourselves before the normal load of tours arrive.

Staying at Katathani resort in Phuket and Phi Phi Palm Beach on Phi Phi. Can%26#39;t wait.
