Jetstar Flights from Australia to BKK - Star Class

I flew MEL-BKK in star class last January Paul, and at around $2000 (a special sale price purchased 5 or 6 months previous),

I cannot recommend it at all.

Unless you get the one and only seat in the cabin without a seat or bulkhead in front of you, (2D), you will struggle for leg-room.

I had pre-selected a bulkhead aisle seat some 5 months before the flight, only to be forcibly swapped 10 minutes before departure to make way for a couple with a baby.

OK, it%26#39;s hard to argue against that, but what really annoyed me was then being wedged into a centre seat with a person either side of me.

I%26#39;m 6%26#39;4'; and this was the nightmare of nightmares. Leg room is non-existant, and when the seat in front of me was reclined (for 7 of the 9 hours flight) I was literally pinned into my seat.

Seat width is fine, I didn%26#39;t recline my seat, because I didn%26#39;t want the poor bloke behind me to suffer (it wouldn%26#39;t have improved my leg room anyway.)

Enthusiastic crew, yet the service was well short of economy on Singapore Air, Malaysian Air, Thai Air, Swiss Air, SAS, Qantas or Royal Brunei.

On the return leg BKK - MEL, I got to keep my aisle seat, and being able to extend my legs into the aisle a little made a big difference but make no mistake leg-room wise, you will gain nothing for paying double.

Again I didn%26#39;t recline because it%26#39;s just not fair on the people behind. On departure almost all the noise cancelling headphones were found to have flat batteries, so instead of the decent headsets we got the disposable ones to plug into the portible IFE player (which you have to balance on your knees).

The FA%26#39;s were friendly, and tried hard, but were disorganised on both legs. The head FA when handing out dessert (a piece of cake), insisted I pull out my tray table or she ';could not give me a piece';. Fair dinkum, how to make a bloke feel 10 years old again (I declined the cake).

Anyway, if you%26#39;re a midget or your legs have been amputated, you%26#39;ll find Star-class is still not value for money. If you still have your legs, and you can pre-select seat number 2D, than you may almost come out of the journey feeling you%26#39;ve got reasonable value, but certainly no bargain.

Jetstar domestic, and Jetstar Asia, are often great value for money on short haul flights - no complaints about either of them.

You might consider Premium Economy on BA which offers better service and comfort, at a cheaper price.

Unless you are getting a flight for under $800 Jetstar is simply a rip-off --- it is designed as a budget airline and you get budget service.. why pay for that, when you can pay $1000-1300 and go with a world class airline like Thai or Singapore
