In Thailand, one never knows what the day may bring…
I woke up early this morning. Did some typing, mails and photo editing etc on laptop.
I had a lovely photo af the child of one of the hotel staff, so I decided I’d edit it and get it printed and framed for her. The baby had huge eyes, rally photogenic. Processing and framing cost very little here and she’s been very helpful to me.
I also decided to get a couple of my own printed, to check for colour etc..
I got the photos done, they all looked pretty good.
Suddenly the skies opened; there was a serious deluge, really heavy tropical rain!
My homesickness vanished immediately!
The photo kiosk was right beside a lovely restaurant, so I decided to sit out the storm there and have a Chang beer. (I’d just got my first tattoo, a small elephant, so a Chang, Thai for elephant, seemed appropriate)
I got some great photos of the really heavy rain.
I went inside and got talking to two guys from Germany, lovely gentlemen! We had a beer, as you do.
They asked to see the photographs. They absolutely loved the two “test photos” I’d shot, one of a family at sunset and one of a hong yesterday. (Cheers Mark!)
They asked could they buy them from me…..
Well, what could I say…?
They were good people, sincere guys; so I had the cd with me, the Kodak kiosk was next door so I got two prints of each done for them, and gave them to the guys for cost of processing, which was very cheap.
They insisted on picking up my tab for ALL the beer, and we started to have a great laugh! I really enjoyed these Germans!
The rain persisted, and quite soon the roads were under 10 inches of water! Amazing!
My crazy German friends asked me could I take some pictures of them in the floods.
Not a problem!
I got a transparent plastic bag from one of the guys in the restaurant and we went outside and got some very unique photographs! The German guys were really up for it, so we had a great time!
My lottle Fuji F30 performed great, as always, and the photos really captured the storm.
100 baht got all the photos printed, I gave the copies to the guys, we exchanged email addresses.
I’d had a good few Changs at this stage, (the two guys just kept on ordering) so it was time to bail out, and get to the hotel!
I gave Tao, the hotel receptionist, a lovely framed photograph of her beautiful daughter.
The look of pure joy on her face was priceless…
Regards,
Joe

Cathy
Cathy,
sweetheart, when I get home, will you help me post photographs?
Sorry guys, but it%26#39;s just something I%26#39;ve never done.
You%26#39;re all more than welcome to view them, but in Ireland, I just sell my work to clients, so I have NO experience of posting them on sites...!
God, I sound like such an amateur!
Now, something really strange just happened me now...
You guys believe in Karma?
Only half an hour ago I got a phone call here at my hotel, 5.15pm Phuket time.
This morning, just for fun, I bought a Thai lottery ticket.
I gave it to Tao to check for me.
I then forgot about it completely.
Tao is the mum of the baby I photographed.
She called to tell me I just won 3800 baht in the Thai lotto.
The hairs on the back of my neck are standing as I type this..
This morning, also, I got my first ever tattoo.
A small elephant on my left arm.
The elephant, in Thailand, is a symbol of good luck.
I need a beer...
Humbled, stunned, and feeling very emotional...
Regards,
Joe
