Getting to Ko Tao

We%26#39;ll probably be starting off from Bangkok. Anyone know any good ways to get to Ko Tao and anyone know a good hotel just for snorkelling?

you need to take the train or bus to Chumphon, which is about 480 km south of Bangkok, then take a ferry from chumphon to Koh Tao.

Getting to Ko Tao

Lomprayah and Seatran offering joint tickets from Bkk via Chumphon, both got web-sites.

A bit more comfortable is the sleeper train.

Most comfortable is flying to Samui, Seatran ferry terminal is less than five minutes by taxi from the airport. Arrive in the morning because the last ferry goes around noon time. Ferry needs about 2 1/2 hours.

Mango bay is a nice location for snorkeling and decent accommodation but very far away from everything.

At this time of the year generally the best for snorkelling is the east coast. The best rated place to stay on Koh Tao in Anankhira, but that%26#39;s west coast-just book a sailing trip with snorkeling-the transfer to the east coast is included in the price.

hi, in june i stayed a weel at view rock resort, hin wong. cheap chalets on the hillside, good views from all. snorkelling 8/10 -10/10 being bunaken, manado, sulawesi.

reasonable food, v friendly owners, could be boring in the long run if you like social life.

read all about it on

my friends stayed at ao leuk, i think it was similar to hin wong.

I stayed for a month on Ko Tao, tried quite a few places to stay but liked the Blue Wind on Sairee Beach the best; its a bakery with the best Blueberry lassis (yogurt drinks) in the world. Great people, lovely view, fantastic curry and decent accomodation. Wouldnt necessarily recommend snokelling on the main beach but if you head towards the Grand Coral Hotel the water is better there or take a trip to Hin Wong (make sure you get a dirt bike with great brakes if you decide to go by road).

As for getting there the fast sea cat and bus run by Lomprayah was a pretty good journey..met interesting people and got to see the sun come up on Champon pier with the chickens pecking at my toes! Word of warning make sure you have a small plastic bag if you do go by sea cat...often there arent enough sick bags when the sea gets choppy...not much fun unless you go top side and get chucked round on deck (loved it!) You should only pay about 850B any more and you are being ripped off! Enjoy, very jealous!
