money exhangers/ day tours

Hi, my partner and I are travelling to Phuket next Wednesday, have read in the forums already it is better to exchange money once in phuket.

Would anyone know the best money exchanger near the Merlin Beach Resort in Patong?

Also any great day tours, we are in our 30s going for a relaxing vacation, but would like to have a good look around while we are there. We are there for approx 8 days.

Thanks, Regards Lisa and Gary

Lisa %26amp; Gary,

you%26#39;ll find no prob%26#39;s changing money - just go for a walk along %26#39;Beach Rd%26#39; heading towards Bangla, and you will find a suitable changer, set just back off the road, head to Starbucks area.

No real %26#39;best%26#39; changer, rates change daily, sometimes twice a day, and you don%26#39;t really strike up a relationship with the %26#39;banker%26#39;, it just depends who%26#39;s working that day.

Same for tours, if you use a driver.guide, ask him, otherwise you%26#39;ll see the %26#39;stalls/shopfronts that advetise the tours again on Beach Rd. Stop and have a chat and negoitate, though prices are pretty similar.

IMO, maybe look to a tour/trip every second/third day, and pick what you want to see/do.

Otherwise, hire a vehicle for a day or 2 and go for a drive.

First time to Phuket, is a good day out, and get to see so much more - drive to Karon, Kata, and head down to the Lookout, relax, have a meal somewhere nice - go have a look at %26#39;On the Rocks%26#39; in Karon bay area, for lunch/snack.

Plenty of choices, grab a map on the way in (a/port) and talk to others. Phi Phi%26#39;s, James Bond, a sail with capt Mark, all good options.

One poster said they used to sit down at the end of each day over a drink, and had to say what was the best thing they had done that day. Not a bad habit, but also could use that time to discuss the next day plans

We depart Perth tonight, arrive Pkt Sat morning, but leave there for Koh Samui on Tuesday.

Can%26#39;t wait, all packed, %26#39;money burning a hole in my pocket%26#39; type feelings at present.

Take it easy, enjoy your time there, and have fun. Best approach

Cheers

Mark

hope you have a great holiday! :)

Hi Lisa. I used to live in Australind, but that was a long time ago. There are a few, out of the ordinary type tours at the phuketalternativetours website.

Enjoy Phuket,

Mark.

Check the exchange rate at the airport before you leave Perth. We found that they actually gave a better rate than we could get in Phuket. We arrived home this morning and they were paying 29.3 baht.
