Area to stay in.

Hello, 40 year old female travelling alone will be in Bangkok for 5 days. I am not into bars or clubs or shopping in shopping centres. interested day trips and markets and just relaxing on stopover.

Probably will not even go out at night. Which area should I be looking in for a 4 star hotel to stay in. Thanks

Area to stay in.

My husband and I are in your age group and are not into bars, clubs nor too much shopping malls either. During our trip to Thailand in June, our Bangkok stop-over was spent at the Old Bangkok Inn. I know that this is not a 4 star hotel as such but it definitely is comparable to it (minus the pool). The feel of this boutique hotel is very warm, personal though not imposing. The location, in old bangkok,is perfect for cultural visits, just a 35 baht cab ride away to The Grand Palace. Other historically important temples are at a comfortable walking distance away. And as far as food goes, you will be recommended to eateries where only locals will go, or if you prefer you can order in. But if you ever feel the need to venture into the shopping district or visit the Jim Thompson%26#39;s home then you can catch the canal boat at the pier across the main avenue ; it is very cheap and probably the best way to beat Bangkok congested traffic.

We found this little establishment to be perfect for us. It also seems very safe for lady travellers (many guests are women ), most of the staff, and the ever so sweet and helpful owner, are also female. IMO, this seems to be an option for you to possibly contemplate on.

They rank number 1 on tripadvisor%26#39;s Bangkok B%26amp;Bs.

Bon voyage!

Area to stay in.

Hi,I recommend ChinaTown Area, not far from Grand Palace ,Wat Phra Keow,Wat Po,Wat Arun and there are many maze of shops.

I agree Grand China Princess, situated in the middle of Chinatown. It is very close to major tourist attractions, such as the Royal Grand Palace. And they have Club Lounge overlooking the panoramic view of the City and the Chao Phraya River.Maybe suitable for your relaxtion.

How about the Asia Hotel? It is in a mostly bar free area AND you have the advantage of being right at a Skytrain stop! This hotel is not far from Phetchaburi Road where there are lots of street vendors, restaurants, Panthip Plaza electronics mall, a mini garment center near the Baiyoke Tower Hotel and several other malls.

Another Hotel you can check out is the First Hotel, 2 Phetchaburi Road. This hotel is not far from the Asia Hotel (nearest Skytrain stop) and relatively bar free! Same vendors available as above paragraph. First Hotel has some decent rooms at good prices.

Having a hotel near the Skytrain is an advantage. You can use the cheap and fast Skytrain to take you to many popular areas in Bangkok.

There is no reason to be afraid of hotels in the Sukhumvit area, with or without bars around. No one forces you into a bar at gunpoint! Thousands of tourist pass these bars every day without any problems! Do visit Sukhumvit Road and check out the street vendors, etc.

Have a good time in Bangkok.

Have just spent several days at the Phranakorn-Nornlen Hotel. It%26#39;s situated in Old Bangkok, away from most tourists but still close to anything and everything. It%26#39;s near Thewet Pier from where you can hop on the fantastic river taxis to go almost anywhere.

There were several lone travellers when we were there. Just read the reviews on this site, I think it will suit you down to the ground. It is such a relaxing spot to return to after a hot day in the city. It really is an authentic Thai experience and the staff are disarmingly friendly.

I%26#39;ve been to Bangkok five times now, and this is the only place I%26#39;d stay. Do have a good trip. Let me know how it goes.

Hello :

People has a prejudge on Sukhumvit hotels and all they

think are the other tourists stay in Sukhumvit road .

I have seen all type of tourist frequently staying this area.

You can have a lower or upper Suk. hotels. The bars and

clubs are not everywhere and really hard for you to find

If you are not looking for them . That is true , Nobody will force

you to do anything if you don%26#39;t like . This a free enterprise economy

system . I was there in May, 2007 and very pleased with this

Sukhumvit , particulary the Majestic suites hotel.

For a good measure of more great things in Bangkok ; I shall

be back the same hotel and spend more holidays time later

this year.

Enjoy your trip,

Hi,

I would take a look at the Marriott Resort and Spa. Fantastic place for relaxing, the pool area is gorgeous.

It has several restaurants, chinese, japanese, seafood, thai cuisine so would be perfect if you didn%26#39;t want to leave the hotel at night.

It%26#39;s right on the river away from the hustle and bustle but still easily accessible.

I’m with Infidelal and Trat. The bars on Sukhumvit are hard to see if you don’t look for them. You don’t go out at night when “girls” start to walk so you can’t see anything.

This hotel is close to Phrom Phong skytrain station which is convenient for your day trips or market visits. I paid 3,900 Baht (US$118) but you may get a better deal. I find it relaxing to sit in the small park next to the hotel in the morning. I have my review and photos here:

Hello :

I paid 1350baht a day in the Majestic suites on Sukhumvit

road. The booking was very easy through their own web

site. This hotel is located between soi 4 and Landmark hotel,

a short walk to Nana station and very close to everything on

the lower Sukhumvit restaurants, internet cafes, laundry mats,

You name it they have it here. I stayed here in May, 2007

and can not wait to Rush back this area and Bangkok.

Enjoy the trip,

Yes, Majestic Suites is nice, and guests can use the swimming pool at the Majestic Grande (on Soi 2).

You might be a little, err, %26#39;upset%26#39; to meet temporary couples in the morning, in the lift. That%26#39;s because the Number 1 bars place is just around the corner (in fact the rooms at the back of the hotel overlook the place).

Have fun!

Hello :

I definitely have not any problem with Temp. couple in the lift

at the Majestic suites at a bit. For a number of Bars around

the corner, it is sometimes a Big advantage to visit and have

some Entertainments that they can offer.

Bars and clubs are everywhere in the USA and through out EU.

and who%26#39;s having any problem with that ?

After all, We can use Freedom of Speech in Thailand too.

Enjoy your trip,
