Travel Chiang Mai to Bangkok at Chinese New Year?

We will be traveling from Chiang Mai to Bangkok on february 10, 2008 about three days after Chinese New Year. I%26#39;d like to take the train, but I%26#39;m concerned that they will be all booked up. How can I get a train ticket in advance? Or would flying be the best way to go? We%26#39;re arriving CM January 28. Thanks!

You need to go to www.railway.co.th, click on timetable (HTML format), then click on northern line. there you will get the timetable and train numbers for CM to BKK. when you have decided which train then e-mail

passenger-ser@railway.co.th with the following info

date of train departure

train number

departure time

class of travel (overnight you have the choice of first and/or second class sleeper, during the day you have seats)

number of passengers and names

wait for a reply.

when confirmed, you go to the CM train station office on day of departure and pay. you can do this up to 1 hour prior to departure.

In my opinion, Chinese New Year in Thailand is not that super busy like you think other than some celebrations in Nakhon Sawan, etc.
