Jeep Hire in Samui

I have read many posts regarding hiring a jeep and insurance cover with some concerns.

Is it safe enough to hire from Lamai and Chaweng villages and are they really covered by insurance or is the practice of taking driver%26#39;s/licence or passport to make sure we pay for any damages before they give it back.

Greatful for any information regarding hiring a jeep in Feb 2008.

The couple of times i`ve hired a jeep i`ve done it through the resort I was staying at so personally I find that`s what suits me %26amp; the prices compare fairly well at around 800 to 1000 THB for 24 hrs.The jeep was a Suzuki Sierra.

Really you should never leave your passport,if you must, leave a copy but not the original.

If you want to be a safe as possible then hire a car/jeep from the well known hirers such as Budget or Avis.
