Rayong or Koh Samet

Can%26#39;t choose between Rayong or Koh Samet - any help?

Rayong or Koh Samet

i agree with you that koh samed is all about beaches and not much else except the food is good, however Rayong does have a lot to offer, if you think of rayong as a province and not just a beach.

Personally i%26#39;d choose Rayong but i%26#39;ll give you a rundown of both places and hopefully this will help you make a decision.

Koh Samed is, believe it or not, a very large sand bank about 6 km long and 2 km wide at it%26#39;s widest point. It is traditionally seen as a weekender (and long weekender) destination for Thais and Expats from BKK. It is a declared national park, noted for it%26#39;s white sandy beaches, clear water and coral reefs. thus it offers good swimming and snorkelling. Water sports, bars and restaurants line the popular beaches, particularly on the north side of the island which has now become somewhat overdeveloped and crowded on weekends and public holidays. No cars are allowed here. there is a 400B entry fee (because it is a national park) per person before you leave the mainland for Samed.

Rayong on the other hand is on the mainland. Although there are a few more developments happening it%26#39;s not overkill. nice beaches, good restaurants. main accommodation area is a 20 km stretch between Ban Phae and Laem Mae Phim Beach. there are a number of things to do including avisits to Rayong Aquarium, Suphattra Land, Sopha botanical Gardens, Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park and Ko Man Nai-Sea Turtle Preservation Station.

Hope it helps.

I think I like the sound of Ko Samet - the fact that its an island has a certain charm and it seems to have more restaurants - thank you

Koh Samet is very beautiful imo.

For those that have been, any recommendations on places to stay?
