advice on shopping in bangkok

Hello all trip advisor%26#39;s

I%26#39;m off to Bangkok in november for 6 days for the second time.

3 nights at the pathumwan princess and 2 nights at the lebua at state towers.

last yr i visited -

patpong market

chatuchak market

suan lum night bizarre

mbk shopping centre

siam square area

khao san rd in the day

i will be going to all of the above besides chatuchak as i wont have time to make it there and i think that once was enough for me with the heat etc.

can any one please tell me whether or not the following markets are worthwhile looking at? and any info you may have about these markets -

Pratunam market

Nai Loet or Nailert market (small chatuchak apparently)

Banglamphu market

Memorial bridge night market

Baiyoke tower

ratchadapisek rd

Ploenchit - rachaprasong

Sukhumvit rd

Silom mahesak

any advice would be greatly appreciated! :-)

many thanks

advice on shopping in bangkok

I was at 2 Baiyoke Towers last month.

The Baiyoke Sky (tallest tower) was almost dead. Air con was off in many areas. Too hot to walk. Many shops were not opened by 11am when it was already crowded in Baiyoke Suite.

On the other side of the street is the Pratunam Center. Very quiet.

If you decide to go, shop at Baiyoke Suite and Indra Square.

thanks Land Premier

what kind of things could be purchased from Baiyoke?

You%26#39;re welcome, Izzy.

Baiyoke is a garment wholesale place. They have mainly clothes--casual, office, party occasions鈥︹€?I bought some cotton long pants to wear at home about 150 Baht each.

Purses, bags, luggage, cosmetics, panty hoses, underwear, watches 99Baht for someone who wants to wear for fun, artificial hairs, hats, etc. can be found there but not much.

I walked along Sukhumvit Road last year. They sold almost the same stuff including lady shoes and hair clippers at retailed prices from Nana BTS to Phloen Chit BTS. I didn鈥檛 walk into Soi 3.

These lady clothes and things are sold in front of Central World Plaza both sides of the street in the night time.

How about Yaourat Road (China Town), really busy but fascinating - all sorts of clothing, material, Asian nick nacks etc. More traditional.

Memorial Bridge markets are the Flower Markets, wholesale and retail. About 100yds long on both sides of the road. Magnificent sight and great photo opportunity. Best viewed 9pm to 5am when all the flowers are arriving for the day. Also vegetables, and stalls making garlands for merit making.

u%26#39;ve misssed platinum mall completely! add that to your list!

Thanks Land Premier, Yonny and Garyphil

Sorry guys I just want to know which places are worthwhile going to because I only have a limited time and so much shopping to do!

Garyphil 鈥?what kind of stuff can I find at the platinum mall?

Any more suggestion please keep them coming.. much appreciated :-)

Hi Izzy

We have just returned from 4 days in Bangkok(3 weeks in Thailand) %26amp; I would agree that Indra Square %26amp; Platinum Plaza are both good. There are lots of lanes around Indra Regent that have some good stuff as well. I still think that out of all the markets we went to that Patpong had the best stuff to buy.

That%26#39;s just my personal opinion.....

Thanks

Thanks Aussie Pearl,

welcome back, hope you had a great trip to thailand. i%26#39;m also going for just over three weeks. i went to Patpong last yr too and loved it there. great replica items ;-)

i spent many hours walking around all the stalls and went back for a second look

im addicted to shopping!!

cheers,

izzy
