Rangsit University & Quality Suites

Our daughter wil be in a study abroad program from Sept - Dec. at Rangsit University. Anyone studied there? What is the University area of Bangkok like? How is transportation from here to other areas?

We want a cultural experience..... Suggestions?

We are NOT into nightlife, like sightseeing, exploring....

We are going to visit for two weeks in November. We have a timeshare and can exchange and stay at the Quality Suites that are near the Don Muang Airport, which appears to also be near Rangsit University. This hotel has very mixed reviews on TripAdvisor. We don%26#39;t need anything elaborate, just want a clean, wholesome base near the University. We have a one bedroom with a partial kitchen on hold. Is this at least a decent place? It isn%26#39;t rated through the exchange program, so we know it is not going to be fancy, but has anyone stayed there in the one bedrooms. Is it clean and safe?

You%26#39;ll be very lucky if you get any feedback about this accomodation on this forum.

It%26#39;s too far out of town to be regularly used by tourists. Even tourists who want an airport hotel for Don Muang don%26#39;t usually go this far out.

Rangsit is a large industrial/University area on the northern outskirts of town and isn%26#39;t frequented by too many tourists cos this isn%26#39;t much touristy to see here - just a University.

Plenty of local shops; Makro, Carrefour, Tesco Lotus, and the big Future Park shopping Centre with Big C. But no tourist attractions.

Picture a road (Route 1) heading north out of Bangkok. It has an overhead tollway that travels the first 35 kilometres out of town from Bangkok to Saraburi which is 100 KMs out.

You pass Don Muang Airport, then after 35KMs the overhead Expressway finishes - dropping down onto the normal road. Welcome to Rangsit!

Transport into town here is OK if you don%26#39;t mind local transport; basic trains which really are basic commuter services with hard seats, or buses that won%26#39;t usually take you to the area you want to go.

Taxi is the only alternative and it%26#39;s some distance (30-35 KMs).

I would recomend perhaps you stay further in, on this side of the centre. Look at a map with the BTS Skytrain, or MRT Underground trains in mind.

Perhaps Chatuchuck area or Victory monument may be more sensible.

Hi Sunshine,

I saw your post the other day but I was not sure about that university. According to AndyBKK, if your daughter鈥檚 university is near Future Park Rangsit, you are very far from Airport Suites. We stayed in 2004 so my comments can be outdated. The carpet was a hard cheap kind for roughly 155 Baht per square meter in grey color. The beds were normal but clean. The room was about 40 sq.meters so we had space to eat pizza in room. I forgot the bathroom details.

You may be interested to take the train from Don Muong to Rangsit, then taxi to your daughter鈥檚 place. From Don Muong Airport, there鈥檚 a walkway connected with the train station.

Funny enough, my daughter (we are Thai) studied in USA for one year under an exchange program and your daughter will study in Thailand. What a surprise!
